Preventing homelessness for all ages across the Lancaster and Morecambe District

In partnership with Lancaster City Council Strategic Housing Service, Lancaster and District YMCA and Signposts MARC are working     together across the Lancaster   District to provide a Homelessness Prevention Service.

The core aims of the service are to

·       support tenants to retain their existing accommodation

·       Help identify and access         alternative sustainable            accommodation

And

·       Provide an outreach service.

The Doorstep Project works with tenants, Landlords, Lancaster City Council and other agencies to    ensure that the core aims of the service are met.

The service has bases in Lancaster and Morecambe and is working towards developing outreach     services throughout the rural     areas of the District.

The service can also be contacted online and by telephone.

Retaining existing accommodation

The Doorstep Project will help you retain your existing tenancy wherever possible.

Our staff team will work with you and your landlord to identify solutions which will enable you to stay in your current tenancy. Our staff can support you in ensuring you get the benefits that you are entitled to and we may be able to help you access other financial support.

As well as financial support we will be able to provide practical  support such as helping with budgeting, signposting and supporting you to access independent legal advice etc.

We can also help where the issue is one of relationship breakdown between parents and young people through the YMCA’s TRUCE project.

Securing alternative accommodation

When retaining your existing tenancy is not possible The Doorstep Project can help you identify and access  sustainable accommodation.

We work closely with local landlords and we are able to negotiate tenancies with you. We will work with you to ensure that any future tenancy is sustainable for you.

In many instances we are also able to help you with a bond through our Deposit Guarantee Scheme.
